Change is coming

Hi folks, i know it has been sometime since my last post but changes will be coming soon. What is in the works is a new website and maybe a color scheme change for the blog. Also i will be moving my site to a diferent server in the next couple of weeks, so to make my life a bit simpler the shopping cart has been shut down until then. Updates to the blog will also be slow until the move and new site is up and running. And i sure hope i can get everything up and running.

In the mean time head on over to facebook and let’s become friends.

2009 baptism scheduling and availability

Hi folks I hope everyone is doing well. I just wanted to take a moment and inform you of my availability and scheduling for Greek baptisms that will be taking place this year. If you are a return client please contact me so I can inform you of my open dates that I currently have. I will only be taking on a handful of new clients for baptisms in the fall / winter of 2009. If you have any questions I’m only an e-mail or phone call away.

The entire product line has been revamped this year as well, I still carry a limited selection of matted albums and the only choice are leather covers. The new product line includes coffee table magazine and photo books, including flush mount albums in a storybook or stand alone image format. If you are interested in pricing please feel free in contacting me.

Another day in the office

Hi folks, I know it has been some time since my last post I have been working on a ton of stuff. Besides all the clients orders that are currently being worked and finish up a string of baptisms. Here is a list of some of the backoffice stuff being worked on.

  • Blog update, the blog has been recently updated to the latest version and is undergoing some tweaking. You may have noticed a simpler way in adding comments and also a contact form has been integrated. This is still a work in progress so more minor changes are to come.
  • The online shopping cart is currently down undergoing a version upgrade so I should have this back up soon.
  • A new website is currently in the works and hopefully will go live before peak wedding season comes around. But I did mange to add another gallery Photography by Christos, so go check it out.
  • New sample albums are in the works.
  • Price increases and wedding package updates are currently being worked on and will be going into effect on April 2 2009, so if you are on the fence now is the time to hook up with me.

I believe you get the idea, so hopefully I will be getting around to posting some weddings images that I have shot over the last few months.

Care of your wedding album 101

A common question that I’m asked is how should I maintain my album. So here is the scoop, common sense should prevail here. In other words don’t be flipping the pages of the album when you are eating cheese doodles and a soda pop, which I know you won’t be doing.

Your wedding album is made to last generations and is made up of two materials paper and most have a leather covers. The leather is very different then leather that goes on couches and your automobile seats, so try not to get it stained since most of those commercial leather are treated differently.

Now with anything made of paper humidity and temperature changes will affect the album pages. You should not store your album in an area that has high humidity or is damp, that is very bad thing. What will happen is the pages will start to warp, which is common. If this does happen the pages usually will go back to there original form if you move the album to a more temperature controlled environment. You could also place a heavy object on top of the album only if you can evenly distribute the weight. Now all you have to do is leave it alone for a week or two and everything should go back to normal. In other words, storing your album in an attic that is not temperature controlled or  heavily insulated is usually a very bad thing. Oh yeah, don’t leave your wedding album on a coffee table that is in direct sunlight for 8 hours a day either.

Since every home is different every album will be affected differently. Depending on the size of the book, the type of paper used and the style of album you purchase. To a certain extent slight page warping is normal. Even my own wedding album that is 7 years old has a slight warp and I always tried to maintain it properly.

Enough of me babbling, I do go over this in greater detail with all my clients when an album is delivered.

E mail of the day

I would like to take a moment and share an e-mail with you that i have received, hopefully Theresa wont get to upset with me posting it. I did remove any personal information from it.

It truly is touching when a potential client does her research and finds something she truly admires and she knows what she wants. The way I’m reading this e-mail is a bride that is not a follower but a leader, she is not following trends but sees the meaning inside of an image. So can a destination wedding in Greece be in the future? well let’s hope my schedule can accommodate one.

Name:Theresa
Address:Greece
Phone:long distance
Date of Event:not set
Email:private@.com
Hi Christos. I\’ve looked at your galleries and have been very enthused by your photography. I\’ve moved to Greece recently and was wondering if you have ever come to Greece for photography or are willing to. I have not seen any photographers work like yours here in Greece and it would be an honor to have you. Right now nothing is set as we recently got engaged. Please email me if you would ever consider coming to Greece to shoot a wedding and from there when we have a date set we can talk about working together. Hope to hear from you..

Michaels Baptism

As all of my clients know when I’m not photographing weddings I’m photographing baptisms. And since it has been a long time that I have posted a baptims I figured I would share my latest one with you. Thanks to Penny the mom for letting me post these wonderful images on my blog.

As time goes by and I photograph more and more baptisms, my clients are really looking for a more unique contemporary feel to this wonderful event. Not only are they looking for a story with unique angle, they want a lot of black and white images. And honestly i love them in black and white.  Every event whether a wedding or a christening has a story, keep it real and I will try my hardest to capture the emotions behind your day.

Wedding day tip The First Dance

Since we are in the off season, it’s a bit quite on the blog front, but I thought I would  share with you a wedding day tip.

Your wedding day is going to be filled with many beautiful and emotional moments that will make your wedding like nobody else’s. One of these precious moments is the first dance, so I have a wedding day tip for you.
Let it be about you and your husband, after all its your day, it’s your time to shine so don’t share the first dance. Instead have a second song for the bridal party, the parents and your guests to join in the festivities. Now here is why, the average song that is played during the first dance is a bit over 3 minutes, from a photography perspective this is the amount of time I have to capture all of my images that will make your first dance yours. Now if you cut the first dance in half and permit the bridal party, parents and guests to join in, the average amount of time I will have is a minute and a half to do this in, think about it 90 seconds. Again this is just a tip, I always do my best for my clients no matter how much time I have during any portion of the day. So what do you guys think?

Huge turnout yesterday.

In my previous post I stated I will be heading on over to Saint Paul’s in Hempstead for the bone marrow testing for Michaella, and I did. Although we ended up getting there 30 minutes before it was over I was overwhelmed by the amount of people that were there. After speaking with one of the volunteers, she told me that it was packed the entire day with a constant stream of people coming in for testing of all ages. So naturally I had my camera with me and I grabbed this quick snapshot, nothing special but rather to illustrate the number of people participating 15 minutes prior to the end of the day.
Another testing site has been setup for January 22 from 2PM until 9PM at St. Catherine’s in Astoria. To verify the times and date call the church office at 718-728-1718. If you weren’t able to make it yesterday make an attempt to go on 1/22. Trust me the test is painless, and you will feel good about yourself when you leave. But most importantly just think if you are that one individual who is a match, what it will it mean to her and her family.
