As a wedding photographer, I envision fine art photography and videography in Long Island today being all about capturing moments, being different and photographing each wedding with a theme in mind.
Fine art wedding photography in New York today needs an open mind as being the photographer, one should not only go get the safe everyday shots but going above ones expectations and abilities and trying something new and unique at each wedding. That is fine art photography and video today, getting away from the same routine and providing each bride and groom with a unique set of wedding images that they will cherish a lifetime.
It is very easy for a wedding photographer that shoots weddings weekly to get caught in a rut and routinely takes the same wedding photographs, once this begins too happen the work produced for the bride and groom is no longer fine art but rather stale. I'm sure the bride and groom will still love their images but the point is to avoid this type of repetitious style of wedding photography. That is way I mentioned earlier to shoot with a theme in mind, whether the theme be motion, dramatic lighting, romantic, angles or a multitude of techniques available to a photographer. For example if you are going for motion in you images you are not able to accomplish this if you are shooting at fast shutter speeds, slow it down, way down, it's ok if your images comes out blurry, that is why we call it art, that is what will set that image apart from the rest. If you want dramatic lighting, you won't be able to accomplish this with a single on camera flash, change your technique and bring along the correct gear.

Cases in point, let's take this above image, yes this image is grainy,
it's soft and has a bit of motion blur in it. That is exactly what I had
envisioned for this image, a 1930's look and feel without flash, this is
what I call fine art wedding photography.I know technically this image has many things wrong with it, that is not the point. The point was to attempt something different and try to make it work. And this image works big time in the album layout due to the contrast and tone of the image. You&39;ll see it in the sample album.
This photograph was taken during
a Greek Wedding in St Nicholas Greek Orthodox
Church in Flushing.
Fine art wedding photography and videography is truly a subjective matter and is based on personal preferences. Some may like it and others won't, which is fine that is why our clients hire whom they wish. But the term fine art wedding photography is truly overused today, it seems everybody produces fine art photographs, don't believe me? Fine do a search for yourself and you will see what I mean, a good portion of the links provided is not considered fine art wedding photography. I think I should add the tag fine art wedding photography to my style as well
If you are a bride and is only looking at vendors your reception hall is recommending you are truly limiting yourself to the choices you have. All I can say is think outside the box, do your research online, the internet is a powerful tool. You will be amazed at the talent that is available to you, and I'm certain most of the photographers you will find, you've never heard of. These are true independent wedding photographers that are true to their craft and don't believe in multi shooter studios. But that is a topic for another article. To get you started take a look at this site about New York Wedding Photographers.
You're probably asking yourself why I am talking about video since I only provide photography. Good question, as I specialize in wedding photography I research videographers that share the same ideologies as I do. This provides the bride and groom with a few choices in selecting the right videographer for their wedding and not some guy that is just on my payroll.
